Fractured Haven

A Daring Rescue

Waking up the next morning, the party scouted the different entrances to Castle Senauros, and decided the best course of action would be to split up and enter from different directions. Xalgian and Logar climbed a tree and jumped across to the top of the wall, they managed to make it into the castle without sounding the alarm. Tomas and Devon entered the Castle from the closest gate to the stables, but when they announced they were healers the Iron Mercenaries there took them to an Oromancer named Morgana, leading the occupying forces. Morgana directed them to care for the wounded, and the two healers were taken to the medical tent. While Devon impressed the soldiers with his healing abilities, Tomas was able to get a guard to escort him to the stables. On the way he met up with Xalgian and Logar, and the three of them convinced the guard to leave them be. After approaching and searching the stables, they found Ariel hiding in the wreckage behind some hay bales. As they left the stables, the party saw that the nearby airship was momentarily unguarded. Tomas quickly retrieved Devon and, despite the tutor’s sudden desire to stay and be of use, got him to flee with the rest of the party. Climbing aboard the airship, the group was able to escape before the Iron Mercenaries could rally to stop them. As they flew away from the castle, The party instructed Luna, who up until this point had been hiding out of sight in the woods, to meet them in a clearing. they dropped a rope down and Xalgian and Logar used the airship’s ballistae to provide cover while she climbed up. Next the group attempted to link up with their caravan group, but discovered the caravan had been attacked by unknown assailants and was no where to be found. Fearing Morgana’s retribution, the party quickly set sail once again, their destination the great city of Vizantium.

An Underground Adventure

After deciding to return to the underground Eteni complex and try to find their way towards Senauros undetected, the party took a few thousand feet of rope from the caravan and made their way inside. After some exploring, it was evident that a giant battle of some sort had been fought in this structure, with skeletons and broken furniture littering the floors. The party continued trekking inwards, searching through a maze of tunnels and doors. Along the way, they had a brief glimpse of a giant spider, and discovered that the complex was once built around an Aetherwell, a massive nexus of energies that existed during the Eteni Era. This well was now empty, and the enormous cavern that once held it is now filled with spiders. The party also found a number of strange, rectangular objects that seem to store and transfer a lot of this energy. After finding the Aetherwell, the characters caught a glimpse of two emaciated Pretarin scouts, who were eating a baby spider in the corner of a room. The scouts fled immediately and the party gave chase, until they came to a blind turn and stopped short as the scouts threw two javelins at them. Logar crawled forwards in the shadows, and snuck his way behind the two scouts then killed one with its own javelin. Luna shot the second one simultaneously with a crossbow, and the party moved on down the hall to find a dead end. Dejected, Tomas took the map from Devon, who had been keeping record of the course they had taken, and noticed that the complex seemed to be symmetrical. Hoping for a quick exit, they followed similar corridors along familiar routes at top speed, until a spider jumped from the darkness and attacked Jasper, the Tirran Guard that was escorting them. The spider was killed, but not before it had bitten Jasper in the back, requiring quick medical intervention on the part of Tomas, who managed to rally Jasper’s body against the toxin but was unable to fully remove it from his system. The party picked up the unconscious guard and fled to the exit hall of the complex, where they found the massive stone doors closed ahead of them. Thinking quickly, the party inserted one of the rectangular artifacts they had found into a slot in the wall, and all the carvings of the wall lit up and one half of the door started to move. the party fled the complex as thousands and thousands of giant spiders, awakened from deeper within by vibrations in the net, boiled up towards the outside. Luna used a spell to accelerate a flask of oil into the mix of spiders and Xalgian ignited it with a brilliant column of flame. The party fled into the woods, and Luna led them to a familiar hideaway she once played in as a child, where they made camp for the night and began plotting their reconnaissance of Castle Senauros.

The Story Begins
Xalgien and Tomas were traveling in a caravan through Tir, when they saw a city under attack in front of them. They rushed in, against the better wishes of Tomas’ tutor, to try and help whoever they could. Tomas helped a boy with a frostbitten arm, who told him that the Abraxen soldiers had snuck into the keep under false pretenses before attacking and immediately killing the Lord’s Royal Whisper. It seems that a civil war has broken out, at least between the Abraxen and Tirran Houses. After helping the child, the two boys tried to get closer to the Keep to find out what was going on. Abraxen soldiers at the gate barred their way, and Xalgien and Tomas turned away in search of any wounded Abraxens. They found a soldier trapped in the burned ruins of a house, with horrible burns across his face and hands. Tomas healed his lungs enough for him to talk, and the boys tricked the soldier into believing that he was reporting to an Abraxen messenger boy. The soldier told them that his squad had been overrun by a group of Half Bloods fleeing the keep, and that several of the Nobles had escaped down the west road towards Vyzantium. Leaving the city, Tomas and Xalgien were reunited with their caravan, and after browbeating his tutor and blackmailing him, Tomas managed to turn the caravan towards Vyzantium, in search of the escaped Nobles. Meanwhile, Luna Senauros was leaving her home on the way to a musical school when she saw a suspicious activity. A group of Abraxen “traders” who looked particularly muscular and fierce were entering her city. She and her brother Jacen, accompanied by their bodyguards Hantz and Lawrence, set off on Horseback for Luna’s destination. Several minutes later, Luna received a sudden message from her father saying her castle was under attack. The message was accompanied by the sounds of fighting, and cut off abruptly. Nearly immediately after, Luna’s group was ambushed and shot with crossbows from the forest. Five Abraxen soldiers rushed out of the woods and a battle ensued, during which the Abraxens were swiftly dispatched by the four Namers. As the last enemy was dispatched, Luna saw twelve more Abraxens step from the woods, crossbows raised, just before Jacen, in a desperate burst of energy, threw Luna deep into the woods with a magical soundwave. Luna stuck a tree and passed out. Upon awaking, Luna could hear several dozen soldiers searching the woods around her. Using her magic, she muffled the sound of her footsteps and made her way back to the road, where she found only blood smears and churned dirt. Dazed, she headed back towards her home, hoping to find out what was happening to her family. As she drew nearer, she encountered and was pursued by another group of soldiers, who chased her deep into the woods. In her flight from the soldiers, Luna fell through an overgrown wooden hatch into an underground passageway. She broke her ankle in the fall and lay there until the soldiers passed her by. Slowly, she began to explore the passage she had fallen in, first navigating through echolocation and then, when that proved too draining, by fashioning a makeshift torch from some spare cloth and rotted wood from the tunnel. She eventually made her way to a strange room, deep within the labyrinthine passages, made entirely of iron and sealed tight. Luna heard a voice within the room, and opened the door to find a man, chained to the wall with massive iron shackles. The man, who introduced himself as Nero, said he had been taken captive and locked away down here by the residents of the complex, a strange claim since the complex had been Eteni in origin, and abandoned for at least a thousand years. Nevertheless, Luna released Nero from his bonds, and he thanked her by leading her out of the complex, seemingly without the use of a torch. Upon her return above ground, Luna saw a caravan traveling through the night, and approached it before passing out from exhaustion. This caravan, which had ended up being Tomas and Xalgien looking for more information and hoping to investigate the fate of House Senauros, took her in and healed her ankle. Luna slept for twelve hours, and when she awoke she explained her situation to Tomas and Xalgien, who prompted her to try and contact her family via a whisper. Luna tried first her father, then her mother and brother, failing each time before finally getting contact with her younger sister hazel, who said she was trapped in the castle, and begged Luna to come rescue her. With Tomas, Xalgien, Devon (Tomas’ tutor), and one of the two caravan guards, Luna returned to the Eteni Complex, hoping to find a passage to bring her closer to home undetected…
